Valley Police Beat: Marijuana seized

More than 270 pounds of marijuana were seized Monday morning about 25 miles east of here.

The incident took place at about 5 a.m. after Border Patrol agents saw suspicious activity near the border and ultimately tracked the footprints of two men who were hiding in the desert, according to a press statement.
After an extended search of the area, the marijuana valued at about $216,000 was located, the press statement reads.

The suspects, both Mexican nationals who were illegally in the country, were arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the marijuana.


Marijuana and money seized

SALTON CITY - More than 2 pounds of marijuana and $16,000 in cash were confiscated by Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 checkpoint Monday afternoon.

The contraband was discovered inside a duffel bag about 1:15 p.m., according to a press statement, when a canine team alerted to a white Toyota Prius occupied by two male U.S. citizens.

The marijuana has an estimated value of about $1,800, the statement reads.

The men were arrested and turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office along with the vehicle and the marijuana.


Students caught with marijuana

IMPERIAL - Imperial Valley College students were caught smoking marijuana by campus security Tuesday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 1:41 p.m. after the four students were caught while in a purple Nissan Altima near the westside fields, according to Imperial County sheriff’s call logs.

The students were cited for possession of a controlled substance.


Alleged life threats reported

HEBER - A man on East Seventh Street reported Tuesday afternoon that his ex-wife was making threats to his life.

Though the incident was reported at 2:11 p.m., according to Imperial County Sheriff’s call logs, the man said the alleged threats took place a couple of weeks ago when the his ex-wife called and told him that she had hired someone from Portland, Ore., to kill him.

No further details are provided in the logs.


Neighbor dispute

EL CENTRO - A resident in the 1000 block of Euclid Avenue complained Monday to El Centro police that his neighbor consistently walks through his yard to go to the mailbox.

An officer had already responded to the incident last week, “but nothing was done,” according to El Centro police call logs.

The reporting party said that if this continues “he (reporting party) is going to get in the neighbor’s face and if it escalates he (reporting party) will bring out his shotgun,” according to the logs.

The neighbor in question was advised to walk around the reporting party’s yard to avoid issues, the logs read.
