Possible Cigarette Tax Increase

The health care overhaul is going to cost taxpayers a pretty penny and it seems that West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin may be shopping for a way to offset that price.
At the Associated Press' Annual Legislative Lookahead Conference, Governor Manchin said he believes a cigarette tax increase may help West Virginia pay for the pricey legislation. But, some are concerned that personal finances are being put on the back burner and smokers are being sacrificed for the bill.
Chris Taylor, an employee at Smoker Friendly, says the tax seems irresponsible and "people who are addicted to smoking are lower income, and they'll be struggling even more. And it has not been proved that raising the price of cigarettes is going to make smoking stop.
West Virgina has the nations highest adult smoking rate in the nation.. with the lowest cigarette tax at 55 cents per pack.
